Vietnam MBBS Graduation Documents: Indian Licensing Checklist
Direct answer: An Indian student completing MBBS in Vietnam should preserve the final medical degree or diploma, complete academic transcript, internship or clinical-training records, proof of local professional registration where applicable, identity documents and every official translation or verification issued by the university. A student who waits until leaving Vietnam may find it harder to correct a spelling error, request a replacement transcript, obtain a certified copy or confirm the exact dates of clinical training.
Which documents should a graduate request?
Request a complete set from the university’s registrar or student-affairs office, not from an intermediary. The exact list varies, but the core file normally includes:

This is a planning checklist, not a universal NMC submission list. Ask the NMC, the relevant State Medical Council and the intended university for the current requirements when the graduate is ready to apply.
Why is the transcript as important as the diploma?
The diploma identifies the qualification; the transcript helps a regulator assess what was studied and completed. Keep the full transcript rather than only a final-year marksheet. It should show the programme duration, subjects, credits or hours, grades, clinical components and the university’s grading explanation where available.
Compare the transcript with the student’s admission and yearly records before leaving Vietnam. Look for inconsistent spelling, changed passport details, missing semesters, unexplained gaps or a mismatch between the programme name and the diploma. Ask the registrar to correct errors through the official process. Do not edit a PDF or ask an agent to “standardise” a document.
How should internship and clinical training be documented?
Keep evidence that connects the clinical training to the same foreign medical institution and the approved programme. NMC’s FMGL materials describe a foreign medical graduation course, clinical training and internship as regulated elements, and its current FAQ states that the course and internship or clerkship conditions must be read with the applicable regulations. A certificate with only the words “internship completed” may not answer every later question.
Ask the university whether it can provide a rotation-wise record, attendance or completion statement, dates, departments, supervising institution and confirmation that the training formed part of the medical programme. Keep hospital or clinical-site letters only when the university issues or authenticates them. This does not guarantee acceptance by NMC or a State Medical Council; it makes the student’s record easier to verify.
What should students do before leaving Vietnam?
Obtain both a physical file and a secure digital archive before departure. Use this sequence:
- Ask the registrar for the current graduation-document request form and fee schedule.
- Confirm the spelling and order of the name against the passport and application records.
- Collect the original diploma, transcript and training certificates when released.
- Request certified copies or a digital verification method if the university provides one.
- Ask whether documents are issued in English, Vietnamese, or both, and whether translation is official.
- Scan every page in colour and store encrypted copies with a trusted parent.
- Record the university contact, document numbers, issue dates and replacement procedure.
Keep the originals dry and flat. Do not laminate documents if a future authority may need to inspect security features, seals or paper. Never surrender the only original to an unknown agent.
Does a Vietnam diploma prove eligibility to practise in India?
No. A foreign medical diploma is evidence of study and award; Indian registration is a separate regulatory decision. The NMC’s Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate framework includes conditions relating to the course, clinical training, internship, registration in the country of award and the mandated test or tests. The NMC’s current FAQ also says that its guidance does not create an exemption beyond the applicable regulations and notices.
Rules can change between admission, graduation and registration. A university’s statement that it issues an MD or medical degree is not the same as an NMC eligibility decision. Students should keep the official source pages, admission-year documents and university correspondence that describe their exact programme, but should not treat promotional wording such as “NMC approved” as a substitute for independent verification.

No. The diploma is only one record. The applicable NMC rules may also require evidence about course duration, clinical training, internship, local registration and the mandated examination.
Should I keep every semester marksheet?
