MBBS in Vietnam 2026: Complete Step-by-Step Application Process & Document Checklist

MBBS in Vietnam application process and document checklist 2026 cover image

Every year, thousands of Indian students qualify NEET-UG but do not get a government MBBS seat — and hundreds more decide, after serious thought, that a well-regulated MBBS abroad makes more financial sense than a private management-quota seat in India. Once that decision is made, the very next question is almost always: "Okay, what do I actually do now? What documents do I need, in what order, and by when?"

This guide answers that question in full. It walks you through every single stage — from the day you decide to explore MBBS in Vietnam to the day you walk into your first lecture hall — with the exact documents needed at each stage, realistic timelines, and the common mistakes that cause delays. Think of this as the master checklist to bookmark and return to throughout your application.

⚠️ Official Notice from Aieraa Overseas: Aieraa Overseas Studies is the pioneer and official admission partner for Vietnam's NMC-approved medical universities, with direct MoUs across all 7 partner institutions. Beware of agents or consultancies falsely claiming to be "partnered with Aieraa." Do not make any payments without calling us first at +91 93441 41424.

Quick Overview: The 8 Stages From Decision to Departure

Before the detail, here is the full journey at a glance. Depending on how quickly you gather documents, the entire process typically takes 6 to 10 weeks from first enquiry to boarding your flight.

StageWhat HappensTypical Duration
1. Eligibility CheckConfirm NEET qualification, Class 12 marks against your target university, and age criteriaSame day
2. Counselling & University ShortlistingFree counselling call, choose university and hostel type1–3 days
3. Document Collection & AttestationGather, notarise, and get documents authenticated2–4 weeks
4. University Application & Offer LetterApplication submitted; university issues offer letter7–10 working days
5. Fee Payment SequenceDocumentation, ministry authentication, and university fees paid in order1–2 weeks
6. Vietnam Student Visa (DH Visa)Visa application at Embassy/Consulate5–10 working days
7. Pre-Departure OrientationBriefing, packing, travel booking confirmation3–7 days before flight
8. Arrival & University RegistrationAirport pickup, hostel check-in, ID card, class commencement1–3 days

For the 2026 batch, the typical departure window is September–October 2026. Working backwards from that date, students should ideally begin Stage 1 at least 8–10 weeks before their intended departure.

Stage 1: Confirm Your Eligibility

Before you invest time in document collection, confirm you meet the baseline NMC criteria. This takes minutes but saves weeks:

  • NEET-UG Qualified: You must have qualified NEET-UG in the admission year (50th percentile for General/EWS, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC, 45th percentile for General PwD).
  • Age: Minimum 17 years as on 31st December of the admission year. There is no upper age limit, so repeaters and gap-year students are equally eligible.
  • English as a Class 10/12 Subject: Since the MBBS programme is taught in English, your Class 10 or 12 marksheet should show English as a compulsory subject.

On top of this NMC baseline, each of Aieraa's 7 partner universities sets its own separate Class 12 admission bar — and these differ significantly in both percentage and which subjects they're calculated on. Don't assume you're ineligible everywhere just because one university's bar is out of reach:

UniversityClass 12 Requirement
Can Tho University (CTUMP)80% aggregate in MCB (Maths, Chemistry, Biology — not Physics)
Dai Nam University (DNU)NEET qualification only — no minimum Class 12 percentage
Dong A University (UDA)65% overall aggregate in Class 12 (all subjects)
Buon Ma Thuot Medical University (BMU)65% overall aggregate in Class 12 (all subjects)
Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU)60% aggregate in PCB, plus English as a subject
Cuu Long University60% aggregate in PCB
University of Health Sciences, VNU-HCM (UHS-VNU)60% aggregate in PCB

If you meet the NMC baseline above and your Class 12 marks clear at least one partner university's bar, you are eligible to proceed — regardless of your exact NEET score or which round of Indian counselling you are in. Your Aieraa counsellor will confirm exactly which universities you qualify for in Stage 2.

Stage 2: Free Counselling & University Shortlisting

Call or WhatsApp Aieraa Overseas at +91 93441 41424 for a free, no-obligation counselling session. In this call, our counsellors will:

This stage is completely free. You are not committing to anything by taking this call — it exists purely to help you make an informed decision before any document collection begins.

Stage 3: Document Collection & Attestation (The Stage That Takes Longest)

This is the single biggest reason applications get delayed, simply because attestation of academic documents by Indian authorities takes time and families often start collecting documents only after receiving the offer letter. Start this stage as early as possible — ideally in parallel with Stage 2.

Academic Documents

  • Class 10 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate (original + 4 attested copies)
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate (original + 4 attested copies)
  • NEET-UG Score Card (original + 4 copies)
  • Transfer/Migration Certificate from the last school/college attended

Identity & Personal Documents

  • Valid Indian Passport (minimum 2 years' validity remaining; 6 blank pages recommended). If you do not have a passport yet, apply immediately — fresh passport issuance can take 3–6 weeks (Tatkal is faster but costlier).
  • Aadhaar Card (original + 2 copies)
  • 6 recent passport-size photographs (white background, 35mm × 45mm)
  • Birth Certificate (original + 2 copies)

Medical Documents

  • Medical Fitness Certificate from a registered MBBS doctor
  • HIV/AIDS test report (negative certificate, recent — within 3 months)
  • Vaccination certificates: Hepatitis B, Typhoid, COVID-19

Financial & Additional Documents

  • Bank statement (last 3–6 months) showing sufficient funds for education and living expenses
  • Sponsorship letter from parents/guardian (if the student is not the account holder)
  • Affidavit from parents or guardian confirming awareness of foreign medical education regulations
  • Gap certificate (only if there is a year gap after Class 12)

Understanding Document Attestation

Academic certificates and personal documents need to be authenticated before they are accepted by the Vietnamese university and the Vietnamese Embassy. In practice, this generally follows this sequence:

  1. Notarisation: A local Notary Public or Gazetted Officer certifies the document copies as true copies of the original.
  2. State-level attestation (where applicable): Some documents require attestation from the state Home Department or HRD department before they go to the central government.
  3. MEA Authentication: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, authenticates the document at the central level. This is the step most families are unfamiliar with, and it is one of the components covered under the ministry authentication charge in your fee structure.
  4. Embassy Attestation: Finally, the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi (or the relevant Consulate) attests the document as part of the visa process.

Aieraa manages the MEA authentication and Embassy attestation coordination on your behalf as part of the ministry authentication and documentation charges included in the one-time fees. You are responsible for collecting the base documents (marksheets, certificates, passport, medical reports) and getting local notarisation done; we handle the rest of the authentication chain and keep you updated on status.

Exact attestation requirements can change from time to time depending on Embassy and MEA notifications. Always confirm the current requirement list with your Aieraa counsellor before starting — this avoids re-doing paperwork.

Stage 4: University Application & Offer Letter

  1. Once your university is finalised and initial documents are ready, Aieraa submits your application directly to the university's admissions office.
  2. The university reviews your Class 12 marks, NEET qualification, and application form.
  3. An official offer letter / acceptance letter is typically issued within 7–10 working days of submission.
  4. The offer letter is one of the most important documents in your entire application — it is required for both fee payment and the visa application. Store multiple copies (physical and scanned) safely.

Important: Never pay any fee to a third party claiming to "guarantee" a faster offer letter. Offer letters are issued directly by the university once the application is complete — there is no legitimate way to expedite this by paying an intermediary outside official channels.

Stage 5: Fee Payment Sequence

Understanding the correct order of payments prevents last-minute scrambling. Based on how our partner universities structure the process, payments typically follow this sequence:

  1. Documentation Fee: Covers translation, notarisation, and document preparation — paid once your application is confirmed.
  2. Ministry Authentication & Processing Fee: Covers MEA authentication and university liaison — paid after the offer letter is issued.
  3. Student Visa, Flight Ticket & Health Insurance Charge: A combined one-time charge covering visa processing, initial flight booking assistance, and Year 1 health insurance.
  4. University Registration Fee: A one-time administrative fee paid directly to the university, typically before or upon arrival.
  5. Year 1 Tuition Fee: The first semester (or year, depending on the university) tuition, paid before departure from India.
  6. Hostel Fee: Billed annually; the first year's hostel fee is generally settled alongside Year 1 tuition.

For the exact rupee and dollar figures for each of these components across all partner universities, see our detailed MBBS in Vietnam Fee Structure 2026 guide.

Always pay fees only into the university's official account or Aieraa's verified channels — never to an individual's personal account. Call +91 93441 41424 to verify payment details before transferring any amount, however small.

Stage 6: Vietnam Student Visa (DH Visa) Application

Once your offer letter and fee payment are confirmed, the visa process begins. Indian students require the DH (Student) visa — never a tourist visa. Here is the condensed checklist (see our full Vietnam Student Visa Guide for complete detail):

StepDetail
Where to applyEmbassy of Vietnam, New Delhi, or Consulates in Mumbai/Chennai depending on your home state
Core documentsPassport, offer letter, photographs, academic documents, financial proof, medical fitness certificate
Visa feeApproximately ₹1,500–₹2,500 (confirm current fee at the Embassy)
Processing time5–10 working days after submission
Validity1 year initially, renewable; transitions to a Temporary Residence Card (TRC) after Year 1

Aieraa assists with document preparation, appointment booking guidance, and — for Chennai and Delhi submissions — can accompany students on request.

Stage 7: Pre-Departure Orientation & Preparation

A few days before your flight, Aieraa conducts a pre-departure orientation session covering:

  • Travel logistics: Confirmed flight details, airport meeting point in Vietnam, and who will receive you on arrival.
  • Document carry checklist: Which original documents must travel with you in hand luggage (passport, offer letter, visa, medical certificates) versus what can go in checked baggage.
  • Currency & banking: How much cash to carry initially, and guidance on opening a local bank account after arrival.
  • Climate & packing: Vietnam's climate varies by region — Hanoi and Da Nang have a distinct cooler winter, while Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City areas stay warm and humid year-round. Pack accordingly for your specific university's location.
  • Cultural orientation: Basic Vietnamese greetings, food, local customs, and what to expect in your first week.

Use this session to clear every last doubt — our counsellors would rather answer a question twice before departure than have you uncertain once you land.

Stage 8: Arrival in Vietnam & University Registration

  1. Airport Pickup: Aieraa's local Vietnam team or the university's international office receives students at the airport.
  2. Hostel Check-In: Move into your pre-booked hostel room based on the sharing option you selected.
  3. University Registration: Submit original documents for verification, receive your student ID card, and complete enrolment formalities.
  4. Orientation Week: Most universities run an orientation week covering campus facilities, class schedules, and an introduction to Vietnamese language basics used in later clinical years.
  5. Classes Begin: Regular academic sessions start as per the university's published calendar.

Common Mistakes That Delay Departure

  • Starting document collection only after the offer letter arrives. Attestation takes weeks — start in parallel with counselling, not after.
  • Not applying for a passport early enough. If you don't already have one, this is the single biggest bottleneck. Apply the day you decide to pursue MBBS in Vietnam.
  • Paying fees to unverified accounts. Always confirm payment details directly with Aieraa at +91 93441 41424 before transferring money.
  • Booking flights before the visa is stamped. Wait for visa confirmation before finalising non-refundable travel bookings.
  • Ignoring the HIV test and medical certificate validity window. These reports are time-sensitive (typically valid for 3 months) — get them done close to your visa submission date, not months in advance.
  • Missing English requirement on Class 10/12 marksheets. If English was not a subject on your marksheet, flag this to your counsellor early so alternative documentation can be arranged.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the entire process take, start to finish?

For most students, 6 to 10 weeks from the first counselling call to departure — assuming documents are collected promptly and attestation is not delayed. Students who already hold a valid passport and begin document collection immediately can sometimes complete the process faster.

Can I start the process before my NEET result is declared?

Yes. You can begin counselling, university shortlisting, and even document collection (passport, Aadhaar, medical tests) before your NEET result. However, a qualifying NEET score card must be submitted before your admission is finally confirmed.

What if I am also participating in Indian NEET counselling rounds at the same time?

Many students keep both options open. You can continue Vietnam document preparation while waiting for Indian counselling results. If you secure a satisfactory government seat in India, you can choose not to proceed with Vietnam — there is no binding commitment until fees are paid and the offer letter is accepted.

Do I need to know Vietnamese before I go?

No. The entire MBBS programme is taught in English. Vietnamese language classes are built into the curriculum to prepare you for patient interaction during clinical years — no prior knowledge is required at admission.

What happens if my documents get rejected at the Embassy?

Aieraa reviews every document before submission specifically to prevent this. If a document is found insufficient at the Embassy stage, our team works with you to correct and resubmit it — this is one of the reasons having an experienced, official admission partner matters.

Is there a deadline I need to hit for the 2026 batch?

The typical departure window for the 2026 intake is September–October 2026. Because 2-sharing hostel rooms and certain single-payment discounts are subject to availability, students are encouraged to begin the process as early as possible rather than waiting until the last few weeks.
