Every Indian student who has cleared NEET and is considering MBBS abroad knows one rule above all others: the university must be NMC-approved. Without it, your degree is worthless in India — no license, no practice, no career. Vietnam has emerged as one of the most reliable destinations precisely because its approved colleges tick every NMC box. But with 30+ medical institutions in the country, knowing which colleges are genuinely approved — and more importantly, which ones are worth your time and money — requires a careful look.
This guide gives you the definitive, fully verified list of NMC-approved medical colleges in Vietnam, a detailed breakdown of the seven Aieraa partner universities that are currently accepting Indian students, and everything you need to make a well-informed, fraud-proof decision for 2026 admissions.
What Does "NMC Approved" Actually Mean for Vietnam?
The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India — formerly the Medical Council of India (MCI) — maintains a list of foreign medical institutions whose degrees are accepted for the purpose of the licensing exam in India. Since 2021, that licensing pathway has been the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which is transitioning into the National Exit Test (NExT).
For a Vietnam medical college to be "NMC-approved," it must:
- Be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) — the global registry maintained by the AVICENNA Directory / FAIMER
- Be recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Operate under the formal approval of Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training (MOET)
- Have an MBBS (Doctor of General Medicine) programme that is 6 years in duration (5 academic + 1 internship), in line with the NMC gazette 2021
- Deliver the curriculum in a manner that allows graduates to meet NExT competency standards
In practice, NMC cross-checks the WDOMS and WHO listings when evaluating a foreign graduate's eligibility to appear for NExT. If a college does not appear in both, its graduates cannot sit the exam — regardless of how modern the campus or how reasonable the fees.
Important: The NMC does not publish a separate "approved foreign universities" list for India. The definitive check is the World Directory of Medical Schools at wdoms.org. Any agent or college claiming to be "MCI approved" using old MCI terminology is using outdated language — the correct body is NMC, and the correct verification source is WDOMS.

Of these, only the seven Aieraa partner universities actively admit Indian students through an official, structured process — with dedicated Indian hostels, Indian food, on-the-ground support, and proven FMGE/NExT preparation. The remaining institutions either do not offer English-medium MBBS, do not have the infrastructure to support Indian students in meaningful numbers, or do not have formal admission channels for Indian applicants.
The 7 NMC-Approved Aieraa Partner Universities — In Depth
Here is what you actually need to know about each of the seven colleges where Aieraa Overseas Studies places Indian students. These profiles are based on current, verified information — not brochure language.
1. Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) — The Prestige Choice
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Can Tho City (Mekong Delta, South Vietnam) |
| Type | Government (Public) University |
| Established | 1979 — 45+ years of medical education |
| NMC / WHO | Yes — fully listed, WDOMS verified |
| Annual Tuition | ₹5,31,000/year |
| Annual Hostel | ₹1,90,000/year |
| PCB Minimum | 80% aggregate |
| Teaching Hospital | 500+ beds (on-campus); 30,000+ outpatients/month |
| Hospital Network | 11+ affiliated hospitals |
| Indian Students | 600+ currently enrolled |
CTUMP is the only government medical university in Vietnam currently accepting international students. This distinction matters enormously. Government universities in Vietnam operate under stricter Ministry of Health oversight, have longer histories of producing practising doctors, and carry significantly more institutional weight — both in terms of clinical exposure and global recognition.
With a 45-year track record, an 83-acre sprawling campus, and a 500+ bedded on-campus teaching hospital that handles over 30,000 outpatients every month, CTUMP gives students access to the kind of patient volumes that are simply not replicable at smaller private institutions. Clinical rotations begin in Year 2, and students interact with a full spectrum of pathology across general medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and emergency care.
The 80% PCB requirement reflects the higher academic selectivity of a government institution — which, from a peer-environment perspective, is an advantage. Students at CTUMP are studying alongside Vietnam's highest-scoring domestic medical aspirants, which raises the academic standard of every classroom.
With 600+ Indian students already enrolled, CTUMP has one of the largest and most established Indian student communities of any medical university in Vietnam. Aieraa Hospitality manages dedicated Indian hostels adjacent to campus, with separate facilities for boys and girls and Indian food prepared daily.
2. Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) — Vietnam's Most Advanced Medical University
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Da Nang (Central Vietnam — Vietnam's safest city) |
| Type | Private University |
| Established | 2017 |
| NMC / WHO / ECFMG | Yes — NMC, WHO, ECFMG (2024), WDOMS, FAIMER |
| Annual Tuition | $5,500/year (~₹4.6 Lakhs) |
| Annual Hostel | $2,400–$2,750/year (4 to 2 sharing) |
| PCB Minimum | 60% aggregate |
| Hospital Network | 9 own hospitals, 1,500+ total beds |
| Curriculum | USMLE-integrated; American professors from Stanford & UCSF |
| Unique Facilities | Only Simulation Hospital in Vietnam; Only Medical Museum in Vietnam; Only Stem Cell Research Centre |
PCTU is, by any objective measure, the most technically advanced private medical university in Vietnam. The institution holds three distinctions that no other Vietnamese medical college can claim:
- The only simulation hospital in Vietnam — a fully equipped virtual hospital with ICU, operation theatres, high-fidelity mannequins, and AI-powered assessment. Students practice procedures, clinical decisions, and emergency scenarios before touching a real patient.
- The only medical museum in Vietnam — with anatomical specimens, interactive exhibits, and medical history displays that supplement traditional cadaver training.
- The only university-based stem cell research centre in Vietnam — ISO-certified clean rooms, flow cytometers, and confocal microscopes. Medical undergraduates can participate in research from Year 1.
PCTU's 9 owned hospitals with a combined capacity of 1,500+ beds represent one of the most comprehensive clinical training networks of any private medical university in Southeast Asia. Critically, the curriculum was co-designed with faculty from Stanford University and UCSF and is integrated with the USMLE framework — meaning students are simultaneously prepared for India's NExT exam and international licensing exams including USMLE (USA) and PLAB (UK).
In 2024, PCTU achieved ECFMG certification — the US body that certifies foreign medical schools for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 eligibility. This puts PCTU graduates in a tiny minority of Vietnamese medical graduates who can directly pursue residency in the United States.
Located in Da Nang — Vietnam's cleanest, safest, and most liveable city — PCTU offers not just an outstanding curriculum but a quality of life that supports six years of rigorous medical training.
3. Dai Nam University (DNU) — Top Private University in Hanoi
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Hanoi (Capital of Vietnam) |
| Type | Private University |
| Established | 2007 |
| NMC / WHO | Yes — fully listed, WDOMS verified |
| Annual Tuition | $4,100/year (~₹3.42 Lakhs) |
| Annual Hostel | $1,900–$3,100/year (6 to 2 sharing) |
| PCB Minimum | 60% aggregate |
| Hospital Network | 16+ affiliated hospitals in Hanoi |
| Strategic Partner | Hanoi Medical University (7th best in Asia) |
| Unique Tech | Access to the only 2560-slice CT scanner in the region |
DNU's most compelling feature is its Hanoi location combined with an exceptional hospital network. Hanoi, as Vietnam's capital, has the country's highest concentration of tier-1 central hospitals — and DNU's network of 16+ affiliated hospitals means students rotate through genuine national referral centres where the most complex cases in Vietnam get treated.
The university's strategic partnership with Hanoi Medical University — ranked 7th best in Asia — gives DNU students access to HMU faculty, research programmes, and teaching methodologies that would otherwise be unavailable to private institution students. DNU also provides access to the only 2560-slice CT scanner in the region, exposing students to diagnostic imaging at a resolution level rarely seen outside of major research hospitals.
With Indian faculty members who deliver a curriculum specifically aligned with NExT examination requirements, DNU is particularly well-suited for students who want dedicated support for India's licensing exam throughout their six years of study, not just in the final year.
DNU is also the most affordable option among Aieraa partner universities, with tuition at just $4,100/year — making it one of the best value-for-money options for students who want a Hanoi address without paying government-university-level fees.
4. Buon Ma Thuot Medical University (BMTU) — The Central Highlands Pioneer
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak (Central Highlands) |
| Type | Private University (Largest in Central Highlands) |
| Established | 2014 |
| NMC / WHO / WFME | Yes — NMC listed, WHO recognised, WFME accredited |
| Annual Tuition | $5,000/year (~₹4.17 Lakhs) |
| Annual Hostel | $2,400–$2,600/year (4 to 2 sharing) |
| PCB Minimum | 65% aggregate |
| On-Campus Hospital | 500+ beds; 33,000+ outpatients/month; 20,000+ surgeries/year |
| Hospital Network | 12 government and private hospitals |
| Indian Students | 200+ currently enrolled |
BMTU occupies a distinctive niche: it is the largest and first private medical university in Vietnam's Central Highlands, positioned to serve the healthcare needs of an entire mountainous region that was historically underserved by medical institutions. This context directly benefits students — because there is less competition for patient time in the teaching hospital, clinical exposure is more direct and hands-on than at crowded urban campuses.
The on-campus hospital's statistics are remarkable for a private institution: 33,000+ outpatients per month and 20,000+ surgeries per year. By comparison, many medical colleges in India cannot demonstrate these patient volumes. Students at BMTU are not watching — they are participating, under supervision, in one of the busiest hospitals in their region.
BMTU is also the only Aieraa partner university that holds WFME (World Federation for Medical Education) accreditation in addition to NMC and WHO recognition — a credential that is increasingly important for students considering postgraduate education or practice in Europe or Australia.
The cool climate of the Central Highlands (Buon Ma Thuot sits at altitude), low cost of living, and a peaceful campus environment make BMTU a particularly strong choice for students who want to focus on academics without the distractions of a big city.
5. University of Health Sciences — VNU Ho Chi Minh City (UHS-VNU) — The Academic Elite
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Di An City, Binh Duong (adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City) |
| Type | Government University — Part of VNU-HCM System |
| Established | 2009 (upgraded to full university: June 2024) |
| NMC / WHO | Yes — NMC listed, WHO recognised |
| PCB Minimum | 65% aggregate |
| Campus | 643-hectare VNU-HCM University City |
| Curriculum Model | Integrated Modular (pioneer in Vietnam); PBL groups of 8–10 |
| International Partners | MedUni Vienna, Mahidol University, Seoul National University, Flinders University (Australia), University of Bristol (UK) |
| Unique Advantage | MedUni Vienna partnership for 55,000 m² on-campus university hospital (under development) |
UHS-VNU represents an entirely different category of medical education — one that has more in common with Europe's problem-based learning medical schools than with traditional Vietnamese or Indian medical colleges. As the pioneer of integrated modular medical education in Vietnam, UHS teaches through organ-system modules rather than isolated subjects. This means that in a module on the cardiovascular system, students simultaneously study cardiac anatomy, cardiac physiology, cardiac pathology, cardiac pharmacology, and clinical cardiology — exactly how world-leading medical schools like Harvard, Oxford, and the Karolinska teach.
UHS is one of two government universities in Vietnam with access to the elite VNU-HCM system — a national university network that places it in direct collaboration with Vietnam's top biotechnology, natural sciences, and IT institutions on a shared 643-hectare university city campus straddling Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province.
The most transformative development at UHS is its strategic partnership with the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) — one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious medical schools. Under this partnership, MedUni Vienna is providing curriculum consulting, infrastructure planning, and co-designing a 55,000 m² on-campus university hospital within the VNU-HCM university city. When complete, this will give UHS students a fully institutional, HCMC-level hospital on their doorstep.
Currently, clinical rotations take place at HCMC's major Tier-1 hospitals, where senior consultants and Heads of Departments serve directly as UHS faculty — a school-hospital integration model that is genuinely unusual and produces graduates with clinical confidence well above the typical overseas MBBS product.
The university also hosts the Centre for Genetics and Reproductive Health (CGRH) — one of Vietnam's leading medical research facilities — where students can engage in meaningful research from their first year.
6. Dong A University (DAU) — Da Nang's Student-Favourite
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Da Nang (Central Vietnam) |
| Type | Private University |
| Established | 1997 |
| NMC / WHO | Yes — WDOMS listed, WHO recognised |
| Annual Tuition | $4,500/year (~₹3.76 Lakhs) |
| Annual Hostel | $2,400–$2,750/year (4 to 2 sharing) |
| Aieraa Partnership | Formal MOU signed 2026 — official exclusive partner |
| Indian Students | 150+ enrolled (2025–26 batch) |
| Hospital | Dong A General Hospital (600+ beds) + Da Nang Hospital |
Dong A University has a 25+ year history in Da Nang and is deeply embedded in the city's healthcare ecosystem. As one of Da Nang's oldest private universities, it has faculty relationships with the city's best hospitals and a campus culture that is genuinely welcoming to international students.
In 2026, Aieraa Overseas Studies signed a formal MOU with Dong A University, making Aieraa the exclusive official admission partner for Indian students. This means Indian students admitted through Aieraa receive priority hostel allocation, a dedicated Aieraa liaison officer on campus, and guaranteed direct fee payment to the university — no middlemen, no third-party accounts.
With international partnerships across Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, Dong A has a genuinely global academic environment. Students benefit from Da Nang's status as Vietnam's safest, cleanest, and most liveable city — where direct flights to India, affordable living costs, and a growing Indian student community make the transition from home significantly easier.
7. Cuu Long University (CLU) — The Newest Addition, Mekong Delta
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Vinh Long, Mekong Delta |
| Type | Private University |
| Established | 2002 |
| NMC / WHO | Yes — WDOMS listed |
| Annual Tuition | Contact Aieraa for 2026 pricing |
| Aieraa Partnership | MOU signed June 3, 2026 |
| Indian Seats | 60 dedicated seats per year (exclusive Aieraa quota) |
| Programme | English-medium MBBS with Vietnamese language support |
Cuu Long University is the newest addition to the Aieraa partner network. On June 3, 2026, Aieraa CEO Mrs. Deepa Ranganathan and PCTU Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Minh Cu signed an MOU reserving 60 exclusive seats per year for Indian medical aspirants in the English-medium MBBS programme.
Located in Vinh Long — the cultural capital of the Mekong Delta and just 2 hours from Ho Chi Minh City — CLU offers a uniquely peaceful study environment with one of the lowest costs of living of any medical campus in Vietnam. The Mekong Delta's river lifestyle, fruit orchards, and close-knit community provide an environment that is a welcome counterpoint to the intensity of medical studies.
As a newly onboarded partner, fees and full facility details are available directly from Aieraa counsellors. Indian food and dedicated accommodation arrangements are confirmed as part of the MOU.

NMC Eligibility: What You Must Have Before Applying
Regardless of which NMC-approved college in Vietnam you choose, every Indian student must satisfy the following criteria as per the NMC Regulations 2021:
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| NEET-UG | Must have qualified NEET-UG in the current or previous year. A NEET score is mandatory — no foreign medical university can admit Indian students who have not cleared NEET. |
| Class 12 (PCB) | Minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for General category. 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL. |
| Age | Minimum 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. |
| Programme Duration | The MBBS programme must be at least 54 months of academics + 12 months of internship = 6 years total. All Aieraa partner universities meet this requirement. |
| Medium of Instruction | Must be English (or the applicant must have studied in the language of instruction). All Aieraa partner universities teach in English. |
| WDOMS Listing | University must appear in the World Directory of Medical Schools. All 7 Aieraa partners are listed. |
Note on NEET scores: Individual university PCB percentage requirements (60%, 65%, 80%) are set by each institution and may be stricter than the NMC minimum. NEET qualifying score is the absolute NMC floor — universities may set their own NEET score thresholds above this baseline.
After Graduation: The NExT Pathway to Practice in India
From 2024 onwards, Indian graduates of foreign medical universities must pass the National Exit Test (NExT) to obtain a licence to practice medicine in India. NExT replaces FMGE and will be a two-part exam:
- NExT Step 1: Written theory examination testing knowledge across all clinical subjects — essentially a board exam similar to USMLE Step 1.
- NExT Step 2: Clinical and practical competency assessment.
All seven Aieraa partner universities have curricula aligned to NExT competency standards. More importantly, Aieraa Overseas Studies runs a dedicated NExT preparation programme for students at partner universities from Year 3 onwards — so your NExT readiness is built into your degree, not crammed in the final year.
Historically, Vietnam-trained graduates have performed well in FMGE relative to graduates from some other countries, partly because the English-medium curriculum and strong clinical exposure produce graduates with genuine subject knowledge rather than rote memorisation. With NExT, where clinical application is tested heavily, this advantage becomes even more pronounced.
Graduates from Aieraa partner universities are also eligible for:
- USMLE (USA) — especially PCTU graduates (ECFMG certified) and all students from WDOMS-listed institutions
- PLAB (UK) — for practice in the United Kingdom
- AMC (Australia) — Australian Medical Council licensing exam
- Postgraduate studies in Vietnam, Germany, Japan, or other countries

Frequently Asked Questions: NMC-Approved Colleges in Vietnam
How do I verify if a Vietnam medical college is NMC-approved?
Go to wdoms.org and search for the university by name. If it is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools under Vietnam, it satisfies the NMC recognition requirement. For additional verification, check the WHO's Avicenna Directory. All seven Aieraa partner universities are listed in both.
Is a NEET score mandatory for Vietnam MBBS?
Yes, absolutely. As per the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations 2021, Indian students must qualify NEET before they can be admitted to any foreign medical university and must hold a valid NEET scorecard to register for NExT after graduation. No exceptions exist for any foreign country.
Which Vietnam university is best for the NExT exam?
All Aieraa partner universities have NExT-aligned curricula. However, PCTU's USMLE-integrated curriculum and DNU's Indian faculty with a dedicated NExT focus are considered particularly strong for licensing exam preparation. Aieraa also runs a supplementary NExT preparation programme across all partner campuses from Year 3.
Can I get a scholarship for MBBS in Vietnam?
Yes. PCTU offered merit scholarships to 7 Indian students in 2024 based on first-year performance. BMTU also has merit-based scholarship options. Additionally, major Indian nationalised banks — SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank — offer education loans up to ₹15–20 Lakhs for MBBS at NMC-listed foreign institutions, including all Aieraa partner universities in Vietnam.
Are there only English-medium MBBS programmes in Vietnam?
The seven Aieraa partner universities teach in English throughout the MBBS programme (with Vietnamese as an additional subject for patient communication). Some Vietnamese public universities teach in Vietnamese — those are not suitable for Indian students and are not part of Aieraa's network.
How is clinical training different from Indian colleges?
Clinical exposure in Vietnam typically begins earlier than in most Indian private colleges. PCTU's simulation hospital, CTUMP's 500-bed teaching hospital, BMTU's 33,000-outpatient-per-month hospital, and DNU's 16-hospital network all provide intensive, hands-on exposure. Students are not passive observers — they participate in clinical procedures under faculty supervision, which translates directly to stronger NExT and practical performance.
What is the total cost for 6-year MBBS in Vietnam?
Depending on the university and sharing preference, total cost (tuition + hostel + one-time charges) typically ranges from ₹45 Lakhs to ₹65 Lakhs across the six-year program — significantly lower than Indian private colleges (₹80–120 Lakhs) and comparable to or cheaper than Russia, Georgia, or the Philippines when safety and clinical quality are factored in.
Is there Indian food at all partner universities?
Yes. Aieraa Hospitality manages dedicated Indian hostels at every partner university campus with separate accommodation for boys and girls, Indian chefs, and menus covering North Indian, South Indian, Andhra, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and Halal options. Students can change their menu preference via an online hostel portal. Festivals are celebrated with special dishes.
