MBBS in Vietnam Eligibility Criteria 2026: NEET Score, Age Limit & Documents Required

MBBS in Vietnam Eligibility Criteria 2026 — NEET Score, Age Limit & Documents

Before you apply for MBBS in Vietnam, you must meet specific eligibility criteria set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India and the Vietnamese universities. Many students and parents ask us about the minimum NEET score, age limit, and what documents they need — this guide answers all of it for the 2026 admission batch.

⚠️ Official Notice from Aieraa Overseas: Aieraa Overseas Studies is the pioneer and official admission partner for Vietnam's NMC-approved medical universities, with direct MoUs across all 7 partner institutions. Beware of agents or consultancies falsely claiming to be "partnered with Aieraa." Do not make any payments without calling us first at +91 93441 41424.

1. NMC / MCI Eligibility Requirements for MBBS Abroad

As per the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations 2021, Indian students pursuing MBBS outside India must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for the NEXT (National Exit Test) / FMGE screening test after returning:

CriterionRequirement
NEET QualificationMust have qualified NEET-UG in the same year of admission
NEET ScoreNo minimum cut-off for admission; however, NMC requires NEET qualification
Age at AdmissionMinimum 17 years as on 31st December of the admission year
Maximum AgeNo upper age limit (Supreme Court ruling, 2018)
Class 12 PCBMinimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (40% for SC/ST/OBC)
English MediumClass 10 or 12 must have English as a compulsory subject
NationalityIndian nationals, NRIs, and PIOs are eligible

Note: Students who do not qualify NEET cannot register for FMGE/NEXT and therefore cannot practise medicine in India, even if they complete their degree abroad.

2. University-Specific Eligibility at Our Partner Universities

Each of Aieraa's 7 partner universities in Vietnam sets its own admission bar on top of the NMC baseline above — and these vary significantly, both in the minimum percentage and in which Class 12 subjects it is calculated on. Do not assume "PCB" applies uniformly; some universities count your overall Class 12 percentage rather than PCB alone, and one counts Maths instead of Physics. Always confirm your specific eligibility with your Aieraa counsellor before assuming you don't qualify.

UniversityMinimum Class 12 RequirementNEET Required?Medium of Instruction
Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP)80% aggregate in MCB (Maths, Chemistry, Biology — not Physics)Yes (qualification)English medium
Dai Nam University (DNU)NEET qualification only — no minimum Class 12 percentageYes (qualification)English medium with Vietnamese language support
Dong A University (UDA)65% overall aggregate in Class 12 (all subjects, not PCB-specific)Yes (qualification)English / Vietnamese (translator support)
Buon Ma Thuot Medical University (BMU)65% overall aggregate in Class 12 (all subjects, not PCB-specific)Yes (qualification)English (Years 1–3), clinical in Vietnamese with support
Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU)60% aggregate in PCB, plus English as a Class 10/12 subjectYes (qualification)English medium
Cuu Long University60% aggregate in PCBYes (qualification)English medium
University of Health Sciences, VNU-HCM (UHS-VNU)60% aggregate in PCBYes (qualification)English medium

Note: These are Aieraa's partner-university admission thresholds as of 2026, separate from the NMC baseline in the table above. Requirements can be revised by universities from time to time — always confirm the current figure with your counsellor before ruling a university in or out.

4. NEET Score vs. Eligibility: What You Need to Know

One of the most common questions we get is — "What NEET score do I need for MBBS in Vietnam?"

The honest answer: Vietnamese universities do not have a minimum NEET cut-off. However, NMC India requires that you have qualified NEET (i.e., scored at or above the NEET qualifying percentile for your category) to be eligible for FMGE / NEXT after completing your MBBS abroad.

CategoryNEET 2026 Qualifying PercentileApproximate Minimum Score
General / EWS50th percentile~360–380 (varies yearly)
SC / ST / OBC40th percentile~290–310 (varies yearly)
General PwD45th percentile~320–340 (varies yearly)

As long as you have a valid, qualifying NEET score for your category, you can apply for MBBS in Vietnam and will be eligible to appear for FMGE / NEXT after your degree.

6. Frequently Asked Questions on Eligibility

Can I apply if I have not yet received my NEET result?

Yes — you can start the initial counselling and prepare documents before the NEET result. However, you must submit a qualifying NEET score card before final admission confirmation.

What if I scored below 360 in NEET but above the qualifying mark for my category?

You are still eligible for MBBS in Vietnam as long as you have qualified NEET for your category. Vietnamese universities assess your application holistically, including Class 12 marks.

Is there an entrance exam by the Vietnamese university?

No. Our partner universities do not conduct separate entrance exams for Indian students. Admission is based on your NEET score, Class 12 marks, and an interview (for some universities).

Can I apply after a 1–2 year gap after Class 12?

Yes. A gap of 1–2 years is acceptable with a valid gap certificate and a legitimate reason (medical, family, or another college attempt). There is no restriction on the number of gap years for foreign medical education.

Will my Vietnam MBBS degree be recognised in India?

Yes — all four of our partner universities are in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). Graduates must pass the FMGE / NEXT exam to practise medicine in India, just like students returning from Russia, Ukraine, or China.
